"Nafir grew up in Tehran, Iran, a city rich in culture, religion, and politics. In 2008, he initiated his journey into street art by writing tags on the walls of his hometown. Viewing drawing as a means of political participation and expression, he identifies himself as a 'vandal artist’. In fact, despite the inherent beauty, street art faces challenges in Iran, being both unpopular and illegal. To navigate this, Nafir employs the stencil technique, which, after long and meticulous preparation cutting blocks in his studio, allows him to quickly spray onto carpets, and then installing them on city walls. Withstanding the pressure of the illicit nature of his actions is a worthy price to pay to bring beauty and strong ideals back to the streets where they proudly belong, within reach of anyone and everyone’s gaze.
Nafir work has reached global recognition, collaborating with prominent galleries and magazines worldwide, spanning Afghanistan, Italy, Malaysia, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Dubai, Netherlands, UK, Japan, USA, Turkey, Georgia and India.”
